You Are Unique and Different

There is no one without uniqueness and this is a point that all must appreciate. What lies in your palms can make you extra ordinary. It can bring out the uniqueness n you. What I want you to know is that you have something others don't have. That's what makes you to be unique and different. Moses staff makes him extra ordinary and distinguishes him from Aaron whose staff also makes him unique.

The fact I am establishing here is that you and many others may have similar object in your hands, but yours is peculiar to you and you are meant to use it for different purposes. When the assembly i.e. the Israelites rose against Aaron as touching who and who can be a priest after him and they started grumbling; the Lord has to instruct Moses to gather other eleven staffs together with that of Aaron representing the tribe of Levite and other eleven in the order of the tribes of Israel and placed them before the Lord in the Tent of the testimony. The next day, something great and marvelous happened:

"The next day, Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron's staff, which represented the house of Levi, has not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds...This will put end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die". (Numbers 17:8-10 NIV)

As earlier stated, be yourself. Don't try to be like someone else. Everybody has been endowed with his/her own talent (that is what is in your hand); and by the virtue of your craving to copy someone's anointing, you may eventually loose your life along the line. IT IS DANGEROUS TO COPY ANOINTING! God, in the text above, established the uniqueness of Aaron, His servant. His own rod is quite different and unique.

David is another man of God, a unique man who has a 'harp' in his hand. He is a singer and he knew how to play the harp so well. The skillful playing of the harp made him unique in his own generation. A singer that composed 150 songs and above to praise his God and see His face. Saul' his master, had an evil spirit upon him which frequently torments him from time to tome. However, whenever this spirit comes around to torment him, David usually plays the harp to heal him.

"Whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come to Saul, he would feel better and the evil spirit would leave him". (I Samuel 16:23 NIV)

You must know that whatever talents you are endowed with, you are meant to use it for the good of all. If you know how to sing, you must sing to sweeten the heart of the people who are grieved and relief them of their sadness. May be your talent is 'smiling'; your smile must be used to bless lives. You just don't know how to do that, which you know to do best, but God had designed it that way and there is a purpose for it.

Elijah and Elisha are two different prophets but who used the same garment or cloak to perform miracles in their own time. This made them special being during their time.

"Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. He (Elisha) picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of Jordan,... when he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and crossed over". (II Kings 2:8, 13 & 14 NIV)

What makes a jigsaw unique?

Unique means unparalleled, having no equal, the only one.

The elements of a jigsaw that can make it unique are:

The image.
The cut pattern.
The type of material.
2D or 3D
Limited edition.

Hand cut jigsaws are certainly unique. Usually only one jigsaw is cut and certainly when my father and great uncle cut their jigsaws by hand, they cut the only copy of the image. These jigsaws are unique without question. They fulfill all the definitions of unique. The cutter will choose the cut line as he/she cuts. If asked to cut the same picture again, they would take a different path.

The mass produced pressed jigsaw can not be unique even when it has a special image or is limited edition numbers. The cut pattern is used on numerous other images and the quantity produced exclude them from the definition of only one.

In the middle are the hand designed jigsaws cut on a laser. Here, a number of jigsaws can be made but the cut lines are unique because they are not used for any other image.

By hand designing the cut lines, the image is enhanced and the jigsaw created is tricky without being repetitive.

Types of cut patterns used in hand cut jigsaws.

Interlocking - similar to a normal standard jigsaw
non-interlocking - the piece shapes sit next to each other but do not lock into each other. A very old traditional way of cutting. This creates a difficult jigsaw as there is no shape recognition involved in putting the jigsaw together.
Colour line cutting - here the cut lines are placed along colour changes e.g. cutting around a person in a picture. This makes a difficult jigsaw because the jigsaw can not be put together by looking at the colours or the picture. The puzzles is reliant on the shape of the piece to work out where it goes. A small jigsaw can be very challenging when cut in this way.

The different cutting creates a different jigsaw experience for the person putting the jigsaw together. When putting together a standard interlocking jigsaw of 1000 pieces, the jigsaw is very very difficult at the beginning because the person has to search through hundreds of pieces and may have to try large numbers of different pieces before finding the right one. By the end of the jigsaw, the last pieces are very easy to put in because the image can be used and there are only a few pieces to search through.

When doing a colour line cut jigsaw, the puzzle is difficult at the start and even when down to 5 or six pieces, it can still be difficult! This is because the image is no help, the colour of one piece will not show the colour of the next adjacent piece.

The image selected for a jigsaw is extremely important. The image can be unique because it is created from someone's wedding photograph or a family picture or because the image is painted by the jigsaw cutter. Otherwise the image can be from a photographer or illustrator and will be used multiple times. The picture needs to have lots of interest throughout the area of the jigsaw with lots of colours and no big areas of one colour. It is best to select neutral images, not particularly male or female. The picture should be beautiful otherwise there is no point in recreating it. When looking at jigsaws in general, there is a laziness when choosing the image. Many companies churn out the same type of old fashioned pictures that give jigsaws a bad name.

Jigsaws are made of many different substances these days. Hand cutters still use wood as this cuts well with a treadle fret saw. Some companies use MDF despite claiming they are wooden jigsaws! 3D jigsaws are often made of plastic as the modeling process requires a material that can be deformed in all planes. With the invention of Yag lasers, metal jigsaws can be produced. Acrylic works beautifully for CO2 lasers as the cut edge is very smooth when cut in this way.

A unique jigsaw should be something the puzzler has not come across before. New ideas, tricks and surprises should be contained within the cutting. The mind set for doing the jigsaw can be unique, a colour edge cut jigsaw requires a change in how the person goes about doing the jigsaw. Looking for the shape rather than the image is unique to the colour edge cut jigsaw.

Some would claim a very difficult jigsaw is the largest jigsaw in the world or one with a totally repetitive pattern e.g. baked beans. However, a colour edge cut jigsaw is intelligently difficult, a small jigsaw with seemingly few pieces can be exceptionally difficult but challenging and great fun to complete.

Groovy Grape Jello Cake

This recipe is easy because it uses a cake mix. Most food companies agree on what you need to add to the mix to prepare the batter, and those are the quantities listed in the recipe. Read the cake box, though, to be sure the amounts needed for oil, water, and eggs are the same. Things like elevation and humidity can sometimes call for a lesser amount on the cake box instructions.

What You Need:

1 box white cake mix (18 ounces)

1 cup water

3 eggs

1/3 cup oil

1 box grape jello (3 ounces)

Frozen whipped topping, thawed

Sliced strawberries or kiwis for decoration

How To Make It:

Prepare the cake batter in a large mixing bowl, according to instructions. Be certain to completely mix the eggs, oil, and water with the mixture. Pour batter into a glass baking dish.

Bake cake, remove from oven, and let cool thoroughly.

Poke holes in the top of the cake using a toothpick, hitting the bottom of the baking dish. The holes let the jello to travel down through the cake.

Prepare the grape jello according to the package instructions, except do not let it to set. Pour it all over the top of the cake. Do not panic when it turns purple and looks soggy. The gelatin in the mix will firm up as it is chilled and the cake will be fine.

Put the cake in the refrigerator for at least five hours. Overnight is even better. The grape jello will become more solid during that time.

To remove the cake after the jello has set, remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and place it in a larger dish of hot (not boiling) water. Be sure the water is not near the top of the dish, since you do not want to get the cake wet. Remove the baking dish after 1 minute. Dry any water off the dish. Hold the serving platter firmly against the dish and turn the dish over, placing the platter on a table or counter. The cake should slip out of the baking dish, which can now be lifted off.

Using a rubber spatula or table knife spread the thawed whipped topping over the cake. Be as creative with the texture as you want to be. Smooth, swirly, or wavy, the topping is going to look good. Arrange the strawberry or kiwi pieces on the top and sides of your Groovy Grape Jello Cake.

Cover and refrigerate any remaining cake.

MANDARIN ORANGE-CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE WITH ICING

CAKE:

3/4 cup evaporated milk

1 1/2 tbsp vinegar

3 1/4 + 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 1/2 cups butter, softened

1 3/4 cups + 2 tbsp sugar

4 large eggs

1 tbsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 tsp butter flavoring

1 1/2 tbsp chocolate extract

2 tbsp orange extract

1 1/4 cups water

1 1/4 cups mini chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease and flour 3 9-inch round cake pans; set aside.

In a cup, combine the evaporated milk and vinegar; set aside.

Sift the flour, salt, and baking soda together; set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, blend the butter and sugar together until creamy and smooth. Beat in the eggs, one at a time and beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract, butter flavoring, chocolate extract, and orange extract; beat well. Beat in the milk/vinegar mixture. Alternately add the flour mixture and water, starting and ending with flour. Add the flour 3 times and the water 2 times, beating after each addition.

Fold the chocolate mini chips into the batter and divide batter evenly into the 3 baking pans. Gently tap pans on counter to level. Bake at 350 degrees approximately 30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely on wire racks before icing.

ICING:

1 block (8-oz) cream cheese, softened

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp butter flavoring

1 1/2 tsp chocolate extract

2 tsp orange extract

1 lb sifted powdered sugar

dash of salt

1 tbsp water

1 can (8-oz) Mandarin oranges, well drained

Using an electric mixer on low speed, blend the cream cheese with the vanilla extract, butter flavoring, chocolate extract, and orange extract. Add the powdered sugar, salt, and water and beat until smooth and of spreading consistency.

To assemble: Place one layer on cake plate and spread icing over the top, place second layer over the iced layer and top with icing. Place the third layer on top and frost the top. With all three layers stacked, frost the sides of the cake. When cake is fully frosted, arrange the oranges on the top as garnish.
