Google AdWords Tips - Use Your Unique Selling Proposition

The first thing that most business owners create before they even build their website or even start a business from home or from a brick and mortar building is to create a unique selling proposition. This is basically the promise that the business owner makes to the customer.

There are ways that a unique selling proposition can be used to increase traffic to a website that is going to make the small business more money. It is a good idea for any business person to use their selling position as much possible to reinforce their commitment to the customer which in turn allows the customer to have more faith in the business owner.

· The first thing that should be done is to post the unique selling proposition at the top of the home page of the website as well as on every page on the site that is offering the items for sale. This is going to allow anyone to be able to see it whether or not they come to the site from the homepage or directly to a sales page from an ad.

· Include the unique selling proposition in all ads. Get the proposition out there so any potential customers are going to know what your site is all about and what the website is offering. This can mean the difference between skipping your ad and clicking on to purchase items from the website.

· Use the unique selling proposition in all email campaigns. Make it the header of the email every type you send out any email ads. This is going to keep your unique selling position at the forefront of the customers mind.

The main thing to remember is that you want your USP to be visible to your customer. You do not want to bury it at the bottom of any webpage where the customer may miss it.

When Companies Own Words - Unique Gifts That Are Not On Page 1 Of Google Or Bing

What happens when words like "cool" and "unique" end up describing the ordinary? Well, for one thing it can be a waste of time. Far worse is the fact that it leads to poor buying decisions.

Try this: Google "unique gifts" or "cool gifts" and see what you get. Chances are that the top searches will lead you to a lot of mundane stuff like wastepaper baskets, mugs, T-shirts, candles and novelty items. These are nice things but they aren't particularly unique. Of course a wastepaper basket made of dried flowers would be unique. But the ones that I see are made of metal, the mugs are made of ceramic, the candles are made of candle wax and the T-shirts may have clever sayings on them, but they are still T-Shirts.

One of the reasons for this is that, with search engine dominance of e-commerce, words like "cool" and "unique" can be purchased and owned. Because of the expense they are usually owned by large companies. They pay a lot of money to own these words so that when you type them into a search engine their names will pop up. But that doesn't mean that they have what you are looking for. It only means that they have been around for a while and that they can spend thousands of dollars a day to own adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs, etc. or a combination of them. One reason that sites that top the list for "unique gifts" and "cool gifts" do not really offer a lot of unique things is because they rely on volume purchases and truly unique products do not have mass appeal.

Let's say that I want to own the words "blue bicycle" but my online store only carries red bicycles. That does not matter. As long as I pay Google or Bing or whoever enough money, I can pretty much own the words "blue bicycle" so that when someone types "blue bicycle" in a search box my store that has only red bicycles will be listed at the top. My make-believe store does this in the hopes that if you click and come to my site you will decide that a blue bicycle is just as good as a red one and buy one. More often than not you won't and you may be a little miffed about having your time wasted. There is a balancing act here that merchants have to be aware of.

This is not a condemnation of the system. This certainly is not the first time that new, small businesses have a hard time competing with large businesses. This is true online and in the bricks and mortar stores. However, it is a little different in that the ownership of words plays such an important part in online marketing.

We believe that we carry as unique of gifts and home decor products that there are. However, as of now we are on page 38 of Google. No one goes to page 38 of Google to find anything. Most people don't go past page one. There are things that we can do to improve our ranking and we will, but it will take time and as much money as we can muster.

The moral here is not that Google or Bing is "bad" or that legitimate competitors are doing something nefarious. The moral is only that if you are looking for something truly unique or cool you may have to go to page 38 before you actually do.

Google Docs are used today by a wide range of users - from students to businesses and many in between. Those who rely heavily on it for different reasons will find the following tips very useful. If you are one of them, read on!

Auto-Correct Typos

Just like Microsoft, Google Docs corrects typos that you make. In addition to the typical mistakes that every other speedy type-r makes, such as typing 'the' as 'the', there are person-specific mistakes too. You can tell Google Docs about the mistakes you make, and what to turn them into. This way you won't have to do it yourself every time.

To do so, follow the steps below.

1. Select 'Tools'

2. Go to 'Preferences'

3. A dialog box will appear. Check the box next to 'Automatic Substitution'.

4. Then fill in the boxes under the 'Replace' and 'With' with the mistakes that you make and their substitutions.

Share Google Docs

There are people who don't use Google and they might not be able to view the documents they are meant to read. To enable them to do so, follow the instructions below.

1. Click on the icon 'padlock' on the top left of the site.

2. A dialog box will appear. Click 'Change' next to 'Private'.

3. Another dialog box will appear. You can click 'Everyone' or 'Anyone with the Link' depending on what your requirements are.

4. You can also allow non-Google users to edit the document. You can do so by checking the box next to 'Allow Anyone to Edit'.

5. Click 'Save'.

6. Share away the documents by messaging, emailing or any other medium you like.

Bookmark the Document

Just like you bookmark parts of books that are reading in different sittings and have sections that you would later want to re-visit, you can bookmark Google Docs documents too. This can be helpful for a number of situations. Bookmarks can help you recall things that you might require later, make table of contents and other purposes. There are two ways of bookmarking one of these documents.

You can insert a bookmark by clicking 'Insert' and then clicking 'Bookmark'.

Also, you can create a link by selecting text in the document and then pressing 'Clt+K'. A dialogue box will appear. Click on the radio box labeled 'bookmark'.

Preview a Google Document in Gmail

There are times when a document needs a very brief glance. To save time, instead of opening the entire page, you can simply review it by activating the Google Docs Preview option in your Gmail account by doing the following:

1. Go to 'Settings'

2. Click 'Labs'

3. Find 'Mail add-on' and move on to Google Docs Previews

4. Click the check box next to 'Enable'

5. Click 'Save'

The tips above can revolutionize the utility of Google Docs. However, use them carefully. You don't want to give everyone around access to your private documents or the authority to edit it.
