Every website owner knows that traffic generation is one of the most, if not the most valuable asset a site could have. Websites have been known to be sold and bought for well a few billion dollars just because of the massive amount of visitors it received. Without traffic a website would be dead, just gathering dust from the lack of activity. So as a webmaster, you must be highly proficient at generating traffic. Just in case you aren't familiar at generating traffic for your website, here are few popular methods that could get you boat loads of traffic if done properly. One popular way to get targeted traffic to your website is by advertising with banners. It is estimated that over a billion dollars are spent per year in advertising with banners. It is obvious that banner advertising is very effective because if it wasn't advertisers would not spend so much on it.
Another great way to drive traffic to your website is by placing ads on search engines. It is reported that Google gets over a billion dollars per month from advertisers. Like I said before, it must be very effective if advertisers are willing to spend so much. If done correctly, these two methods can get you all the traffic you will ever need. Once you start getting a good amount of traffic, a popular question that pops into many people's minds is, which is more valuable to my website, the unique visitors or the loyal visitors? It is a very valid question that you should be able to answer. But before I go on to explaining which is more important, I am going to explain what the difference is between unique visitors and loyal visitors. The unique visitor is a person that has not visited your website before within a given time frame. Usually the most common time frame is a monthly basis. So if you visited "Website A" once a month, every visit would count as a unique visit.
A loyal visitor is a person that visits a website multiple times a day, a week, a month. A loyal visitor is a person that keeps returning to a website over and over, hence the term loyal. Now that you have a basic understanding of these two terms, which one is more important? The answer to this question is, it depends. I know, it may sound like a cop out but let me explain. Let's say you run a forum website. A loyal website visitor who visits your website hundreds of times a month or even a week can contribute tons of content to your website while a one time visitor will contribute no to minimum content. In this case, the loyal visitor is more valuable. But let's say that you are selling something online.
You would want as many people to see your offer as possible. The average online buyer makes a purchase after the visiting the site three to five times. Some even people purchase after visiting a website the first time. So in this case the unique visitor will be more important. But please beware that both unique visitors and loyal visitors are very important. However, one many be somewhat more important depending on the type of website you are running. Determine what kind of website you are running and you should be able to figure out which maybe more important to you.
